Job Description

The Alliance for Children Education Stars Director is a full-time, 12-month position located on the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Dean of Applied Science and Technology, the Alliance for Children Education Stars Director is the liaison between South Piedmont Community College, the Early Childhood Associate degree faculty, and Alliance for Children. This is a grant funded position and could be terminated if grant funds are not available.

Essential Duties Summary

• Act as liaison between SPCC, the Early Childhood Associate degree faculty, and Alliance for Children
• Actively recruit students for the Education Stars program and guide them through the college admission and registration process
• Confer and collaborate with the Early Childhood Education faculty on a regular basis to assess Education Stars student needs and develop solutions and services to meet those needs with the goal of retaining them in courses for which they are registered
• Actively select and use appropriate learning materials and resources, including textbooks, library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning for Education Stars students
• Work with the Early Childhood Education faculty to develop the course schedule for Education Stars course offerings
• Demonstrate professionalism, character and citizenship at all times and require the same of the students
• Develop effective working relationships with facilities’ directors and childcare providers
• Establish and maintain a file on each Education Stars student to include a personalized degree plan, required Alliance for Children Checklists, and contact notes
• Maintain Education Stars spreadsheets and databases
• Serve on college committees as assigned and attend all Alliance for Children meetings
• Comply with College policies, internal audit procedures, rules and regulations
• Maintain accurate and appropriate student, instructor, class, program, and partnership documentation
• Access and evaluate student performance in alignment with the program assessment plan
• Supervise Resource Center personnel
• Prepare and monitor budgets for Education Stars and Resource Center
• Prepare contract for Education Stars and Resource Center
• Develop activities that integrate Resource Center and Education Stars
• Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program to meet the needs of a Learning College.
• Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to SPCC as a learning-centered college through the College’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes, and delivery of instruction and services
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or the Vice President of Academic Affairs

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field or bachelor’s degree and certifications in the Early Childhood Education field
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Early Childhood Education
• Six (6) months or more of part-time or full-time teaching experience, preferably at the post-secondary level
• Experience with multi-media instructional techniques
• Experience with e-learning technologies and their application
• Proven ability to deal effectively, cooperatively and tactfully with faculty, staff administrators, students and community representatives
• Personal and professional integrity which communicates a sense of mission, leadership and ability to self-start
• A demonstrated positive and proactive approach in identifying problems, creating innovative solutions and managing projects
• Evidence of a career that includes flexibility and willingness to change; open-mindedness, fairness and the ability to see multiple perspectives; a willingness to take risks, and a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth
