Job Description

The Adult Basic Skills Program Development Coordinator/Instructor is a full-time, 12-month position located on both the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC, and the LLP Campus in Polkton, NC. Under the direction of the Director of Adult Basic Skills, the Adult Basic Skills Program Development Coordinator/Instructor coordinates Adult Basic Education (ABE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) programs with a teaching component. This position requires experience teaching in Adult Basic Skills or post-secondary education programs. This position will oversee ABE and HSE programming in both Union and Anson counties.

Essential Duties Summary

• Develop ABE/HSE programming specific to the needs of each service area
• Identify and develop internal and external partnerships to support and expand ABE/HSE programs in each service area
• Collect, analyze, and evaluate data to determine ABE/HSE program effectiveness
• Demonstrate a positive and proactive approach in identifying problems, creating innovative solutions, and managing projects
• Cultivate a collegial, collaborative environment
• Work positively and cooperatively with internal and external partners
• Pursue professional development and share expertise and best practices within the college, locally and at the state level, when appropriate
• Develop an understanding of best practices related to Adult Basic Skills programs and transitioning elements
• Develop, implement, and oversee recruitment, retention, and marketing activities to promote and expand ABE/HSE programs in each service area
• Advocate and promote Adult Basic Skills programs internally and to the community
• Supervise full and part-time ABE and HSE instructors
• Lead/train ABE/HSE instructors in classroom management, classroom activities, and organization
• Lead teacher training workshops in best practices for teaching ABE/HSE learners
• Conduct classroom evaluations, provide feedback and coaching to instructors
• Effectively maintain student records and ensure all ABE/HSE instructors are trained to deliver accurate student records (rosters, registrations, testing records, etc.) and information
• Organize and maintain ABE/HSE classroom resources and supplies
• Collaborate with the College and Career Transitions Coordinator to develop seamless transition opportunities for ABE/HSE students
• Plan lessons/develop curricula
• Provide direct instruction, small group and individualized educational activities for ABE/HSE learners
• Relate well to adult learners
• Excellent attention to detail
• Adhere to departmental and college policies and procedures at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Basic Skills

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience in teaching Adult Basic Skills and/or post-secondary education
• Experience with curriculum development for adult learners

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree
