Job Description

The part-time Adult Basic Skills Instructor position is a 15-20- hour per week, daytime position located at Brown Creek Correctional/Minimum custody prison. Classes focus on helping students acquire the academic and life skills that will lead toward a high school equivalency diploma and a positive transition to post-secondary training and careers.

Essential Duties Summary

• Plan lessons for each class meeting
• Provide direct instruction, small group and individualized educational activities for students
• Communicate with the Adult Basic Skills Coordinator for Correctional Basic Skills classes
• Maintain required paperwork for the class including attendance roster, registration forms, and student portfolios, testing
• Adhere to correctional center policies and procedures at all times

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience in teaching Adult Basic Skills and/or public schools
• Ability to correctly perform all responsibilities related to reporting student attendance, progress, testing outcomes
• Ability to perform multi-task assignments and create lesson plans
• Sensitive to students with diverse educational backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching in a correctional facility
• Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a correctional facility
• Excellent attention to detail
